Pollination nucs
Nucs on 2-3 frames without a queen, made for crop pollination: in open field, in greenhouses and under tunnels. They cover the flowering period and put bees where they are needed.
€70per nuc

What they are
2-3 frames
Developing brood plus honey and pollen stores, sized right for greenhouses and tunnels.
Queenless
They are pollination units: they work through the flowering period, they are not colonies to grow on.
Handy box
Easy to move and place, with an entrance you can close for transport.
Ready to place
Bring them in during the evening and open them the next morning.
Where they are used
- Greenhouses and tunnels
- Open-field crops
- Watermelon and melon
- Courgettes and cucurbits
- Strawberry
- Berries
- Seed crops
- Orchards
How to place them
- Entrance facing south-east, so the bees start flying early.
- Shade during the hottest hours: temperature rises fast inside a tunnel.
- A drinker nearby, with clean water and something to land on.
- The number of nucs is worked out together, based on the crop, the area and how long flowering lasts.
Watch the temperature
Inside tunnels and greenhouses the temperature rises fast: above 35 °C the bees fly less and the nuc suffers. Open the vents during the hottest hours, keep the box in the shade and away from the plastic, and make sure there is always clean water nearby.
During flowering
Without a queen the colony does not renew itself: these nucs are built to cover flowering, not a whole season. If flowering is poor or the tunnel stays closed for long, feed with syrup. Do not use insecticides while the bees are inside: if a treatment is needed, close the entrance the evening before and move the nucs.
Price and availability
€70 per nuc + VAT, without queen. Availability follows the season: it is best to book before flowering starts. For larger numbers, write to us and we will work it out together.
