Terms of sale
Live bees: queen bees, queen cells, nucleus colonies on frames and package bees
Last updated:
These terms govern the sale of live bees by Apicoltura Mille Terre through the website www.apicolturamilleterre.com.
1. Bookings and availability
- Nature of the product. As these are living creatures affected by weather conditions, delivery dates are always estimates and are never strictly guaranteed.
- Prices. Prices shown for queen bees, queen cells, nucs, package bees and pollination are exclusive of VAT, which is added on the invoice. Honey prices include VAT.
- Priority. Orders are fulfilled in the chronological order of booking and according to weather conditions suitable for mating (for queens) or for colony development.
2. Shipping and transport
- Liability. Goods travel at the buyer's risk. Apicoltura Mille Terre undertakes to use suitable packaging (ventilated boxes) and to hand healthy bees over to the courier.
- Queen shipping. Within Italy shipping starts at €20. For other countries the cost is quoted case by case, plus the TRACES certificate at €80.
- Timing. Shipments are generally made from Monday to Wednesday, to avoid bees being held in courier warehouses over the weekend.
- Collection from our apiary. For nucleus colonies on frames, collection from our premises is strongly recommended to minimise heat and mechanical stress on the bees.
- Queen cells. Queen cells are not shipped: they can only be collected from our premises, subject to availability and on an agreed date.
3. Guarantees and acceptance on receipt
- Immediate inspection. When the bees arrive, the buyer must inspect the package. Any excessive mortality or anomalies must be reported within 2 hours of delivery, documented with clear photos and videos.
- Queen bees. We guarantee that the queen arrives alive. If a queen is received dead in its cage (never opened), we will replace it or refund it, subject to immediate photographic evidence.
- Acceptance. Once the queen has been introduced into the hive or the colony transferred, Apicoltura Mille Terre's liability ends. We are not liable for non-acceptance, queenlessness after introduction or drifting caused by incorrect management by the beekeeper.
4. Animal health and certification
- Documentation. All live stock is produced in compliance with current regulations. On request, or where mandatory, health documentation or the Italian “modello IV” movement form (beekeeping registry) is provided.
- Treatments. We guarantee that colonies and queens come from monitored apiaries that have received the mandatory treatments against Varroa destructor.
5. Exclusion of the right of withdrawal
Under Article 59 of the Italian Consumer Code, the right of withdrawal does not apply to the supply of goods liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly. Live bees fall into this category: live stock therefore cannot be returned once it has been shipped or collected.
6. Cancellation policy
Bookings can be cancelled with a full refund up to to be defined days before the expected delivery date. After that, Apicoltura Mille Terre reserves the right to retain to be defined% of the amount as compensation for the production set aside.
